Kindergarten-isms

I told my 25 little Kindergarteners today! Their reaction was adorable. At first, one student pointed to my belly and said, "I knew it!" Shortly after, about 25 hands were in the air with questions. Here's a list of funny questions/comments I've gotten so far:

- "Babies are born with no hair!"
- "Will it hurt you to have the baby? Will it hurt the baby?"
- "Can I touch your baby?" (this one is very frequently asked.)
- "How will the baby come out?" (me: "ask your Mom or Dad.")
-  "Where will you have the baby" (at the hospital) "Oh nooo!" ("it's OK! Hospitals are safe.")
- "I saw on TV this show where this lady didn't even KNOW she was going to have a baby and then she had one." (me: "Ohhh my. Well, I know I am going to have a baby.")
- Letter from a student: "Dear Baby Lemon, You are a good baby. I love you."

More to come!

Ladies, I have news...

I am so glad I FINALLY told my girlfriends about my pregnancy tonight! It was so hard to keep it from them.

Before we ordered dinner, I couldn't wait any longer and said "Ladies, I can't wait. I have news..." and all three of them guessed it, "you're pregnant!" They knew it! They were so sweet, I'm so glad to have such supportive friends - they even got a candle on top of our dessert to celebrate baby Lemon's future birthday. :)

I'm pointing towards my baby bump!

Our little acrobat

The Dr. visit went so well today! We heard a heartbeat on the doppler, and then had an ultrasound (I begged.) We saw baby Lemon dancing around - doing flips and kicking. It was amazing because I couldn't feel anything but it was moving around so much! I can't wait to finally feel it moving around inside me.

This picture couldn't be sweeter - it's waving!!

I'm going to need these in a larger size...

This morning was like a little slice of heaven! For the past week I have been using a rubber band to secure my pants together. Needless to say, it has been very uncomfortable. So finally this morning I put on my first pair of maternity work pants. They are super stretchy and comfortable! I felt like I could breathe again. I also ordered a few maternity jeans and shirts online. Wow - who knew I'd be needing maternity clothes at 10 weeks? Crazy.

So here are our weekly belly pics! Enjoy :)

Ultrasound #2!

We went to the doctor today for our 9 week appointment. We had an ultrasound and everything looked great! The doctor said there was a strong heartbeat, and we even saw the baby moving around, shaking its head and moving its arms and legs. Brian and I cannot believe the difference in just 2 weeks - the baby has grown so much!!
9 week ultrasound
7 week ultrasound

The doctor said our first trimester will end at the END of week 13, which means we have to wait an extra 2 weeks to tell the 'world.' Oh well! Feb. 23rd will come quick enough.

Here are some actual things I have typed into google:

Baby's First Sonogram!

We went to the doctor yesterday to get a check-up after our ER visit last Monday. I don't know about Brian, but I was really nervous - I hardly slept the night before. But, everything looked beautiful! The baby grew so much in the past week and a half, and we could see a heart beat right away. We even were able to hear the heartbeat - it was the most amazing experience. Brian and I were just staring at the screen in awe. I remember Brian said a few times, "wow that is so cool!"

You can't see much in the sonogram - the baby looks like a string bean - but it's the most beautiful string bean I've ever seen! Needless to say, I slept so well last night knowing everything was going really well.

Oy Vey

Well, I suppose Brian and I are learning all about how to be good worrying parents these past few weeks.

I had some spotting on Dec. 25th before I went to bed. I did not sleep much that night, to say the least. The next morning we were scheduled to hop in the car and drive to visit my family in NJ. We called my doctor right at 8am to get some advice. She advised us to go to the ER to make sure all is OK.

We made it to NJ, made it through dinner, and finally broke down and told my dad and stepmom the wonderful news, followed by the not so wonderful news that I was spotting. It did not take us more than 5 minutes to decide I was going to go to the ER - and off we went!

The ER in Morristown was very accommodating and we heard the best news - that there was heart activity and everything looked good! After this news, we were able to enjoy our week-long trip in NJ.

It's Official!

Wow, what a whirlwind 5 weeks this has been. We started trying in September 2011 and had no luck for three months. As each month progressed, we felt like we would never get pregnant! We would try, wait for two weeks, find disappointment, then try again. I didn't know how long I could keep it up. Finally, in November, I decided I would take a new approach. I dove myself into work and exercise and tried not to think about it. We tried to stay busy as much as we could. To our surprise, we found out we were expecting on December 10th!

Originally, we had tested positive on Friday December 9th but we didn't know it! I had come home from work, and before we went out with friends, I decided to take a pregnancy test. I knew it was probably too soon to get a positive result, but I did it anyway. I didn't have much time, so I took the test - didn't see anything, and threw it away. We went out with friends that night and had a fun time. I woke up the next morning at around 7am and had to go to the bathroom. I had read that first morning urine was the best to test with, so I thought "what the heck?" and tested again. (I had bought these really cheap test strips from amazon.com - 30 for $11 - such a steal! So, I was a test 'addict.')

I was so tired and wasn't expecting anything. I looked at the test strip and didn't see anything at first, but I decided to wait one more minute. I stared at it, and couldn't decide if it was grogginess or if there was really something there. It was so faint. I sat there a while alternating between staring at it, tilting it, and squinting at it. Then I realized something - the test from yesterday afternoon! I franticly (without thinking) grabbed the test from the night before from the trash (OK, now I realize this was gross. Oh well!!) and to my absolute shock, it was dead positive.

A picture of the test I took on Friday afternoon (6 days before my missed period!) but didn't discover until Saturday morning.

It was sitting in the trash all night - positive! positive! And we didn't even realize it. The more I looked at the test from that morning, it was there, barely - but the line was there!

I didn't even think of what to do next - I just reacted. I ran to the bedroom and turned on all the lights. I sat down next to Brian, who was dead asleep. I frantically shook him and yelled at him to wake up!! He was very hesitant, but I forced the two tests into his face and asked him if he saw a little pink line. Brian said he saw something there for sure. But then - ladies, sit tight for this one -  he said "let's go back to bed and talk about it in a little while."

Wait, what?

Yes, he said that. Oh no he didn't!

I looked at him and realized he didn't understand what I was showing him. I explained that positive meant positive! He still seemed confused.

Wow, dense.

I had to take out a baby book and read to him that "you cannot have a false positive." Engineers always need proof - he never takes me for my word. Annoying.

Anyway, after that, we both sat there in shock for a long time, and our happiness grew and grew!

We woke up, showered and got dressed. Then we did what every first time expecting couple would do: we got dunkin' donuts, went to CVS and bought a $20 test to confirm our pregnancy!
Brian's reaction to this test was priceless: he just kept walking over to it throughout the day to look and check it.  So cute!
